Red Dove Paper Mache Ornament, India

Handcrafted in the Kashmiri region of India with a traditional papier-mâché technique, these beautiful hand-painted bird ornaments celebrate the season with elegant designs! Each is a small piece of art and perfect for the garden or bird enthusiast.

The creation of one piece takes several days and begins with a handmade wooden mold. Recycled paper is used to make the pulp and applied to the mold. Once the form is smooth and dried, it's taken to the workshop for artisans to paint. This age-old artform has been passed down for generations and takes years to master. The family workshop employees many from the community including women, empowering them in the traditional Muslim community where these opportunities didn't exist.
